Preliminary - Storyboard for Music Video Pastiche.

We designed this storyboard with the two music videos we had as reference.
One being The Kooks - Down and Alt J - Breezeblocks so we then decided on several different short shots that fitted in with the fast paced action of the design. We wrote a few different ideas for replacements aswell.

As you can see some shots definitely didn't make the cut, like the clap of dust and the folding sunglasses, however I think overall we managed to plan our shots very well even with location in mind.
We also wrote small ideas about editing and time slots along the sides of the sheet, simple things like 5 seconds shot just so they can be repeated.

I was overall pleased with how well we followed our storyboard.

Preliminary - Filming

I feel that filming went excessively smoothly because of the style of pastiche that we were making, there was not a lot that made it complex for us to film. We use a small amount of props, locations, and actors, so we had a larger choice of shots to take because of a larger time to work in.

Locations - Only one location was unavailable to work in because of sound issues, so overall we ended up using A public toilet (sink), A car park (Dye), Alleyway (Glass, cleared afterwards), Blank coloured hallway.

Props - We used minimal props due to the reference video (as mentioned in a previous post) overall we used : Red art dye, a small wine glass, Lighter, water tap, Coat (hoodie).

Camera Angles - Due to the nature of the videos we referenced, the only shots necessary were Close ups, over the shoulder shots, and mid-body shots, there was one occasional Super close up as a second variation of recording the lighter (flame) shot.

Preliminary - Roles

In my group for this task we worked as a group of 4, this was useful at times but sometimes a hindrance, I often find that having too many people doing to many things can be hard to keep track of, although roles being assigned did make things easier.

Jason (Myself) - I took the role of Editor, Writer, and Cameraman.
Will - Took the role of Actor, Cameraman, and Props.
Chereece - Played an Actor for odd shots, and a main role in Directing and Editing.
Jen - Directed shots and helped with making sure all the props were available as well as choosing locations.

Each member played a huge roll in making sure everything went smoothly and I feel that we all contributed well to the short piece.

Preliminary - Editing

A2 Media Preliminary task - Editing

We began by trimming and editing our original story board footage. This included making several cuts of the same shot so that we had multiple choices to use on cues.

Clip Adjustments -  We began by making simple gradient effects and changes to fit in with the style of our reference video 'The Kooks - Down'. But we also found that a lot of simple viginette filters adding a dark blur adding a lot of emphasis to shots.
Editing For Effect -  One of my personal favourite shots was the 'dye shot' where our actor will blew 'smoke' out of his mouth, with little editing we managed to create an astounding effect for the video.
And it fitted well on cue and in reference to 'The Kooks - Down'.

Transitions -   We tried to use as few transitions as possible as the original reference videos 'Alt J. - Breezeblocks' and 'The Kooks - Down' Primarily all have little transitions and often jump cuts that force cues to timing.

After everything was put into place and effects and edits were in place we then started adding transitions, keeping in mind the style of our other video references.

After Effects - For any shots that did seem in place but rather out of place because none of the filters would allow a smooth placement, we then began using more advanced hue editing and grain filters to allow a better shot.
Volume Adjustments -  We ended up with a lot of claps on beats and shots that fitted with cues but we also ended up with space that was filled by a clap that we saw visually with no sound (from the original music) so we decided to alter the volume and create a clap that fitted excessively well from the original audio.

A2 Media - Preliminary.

This is our A2 Media preliminary task. We were told to make a pastiche of short length to get to grips with filming and editing the different areas.
we chose to use a music video for easier editing.
We used the song 'Down' by The Kooks and we also based a lot of our filming on the video by the same name. Afterwards we decided we'd like to reference the music video for 'Alt J - Breezeblocks'.

We managed a nice setup for our video overall. and though there were simple things that could be improved I think we all did well for a first time in editing (Although I had a tiny bit of past experience).

Above you can see the visual content that we have created for our preliminary task.
